Two-day session at the Mövenpick Hotel to examine regulatory frameworks for sustainable petroleum development across Africa
The African Petroleum Regulators Forum (AFRIPERF), in partnership with the Oil and Gas Decarbonisation Charter (OGDC), will convene a Regulatory Workshop on Thursday 3 and Friday 4 September 2026 at the Mövenpick Hotel, Accra, Ghana.
Themed Regulation for Sustainable Petroleum Development in Africa, the workshop brings together upstream regulators and Charter signatories to examine the regulatory instruments required to advance decarbonisation commitments across African producing jurisdictions.
The Oil and Gas Decarbonisation Charter was launched at COP28 in Dubai as a voluntary framework under which participating national and international oil companies commit to net-zero operations by 2050, the ending of routine flaring by 2030, and near-zero upstream methane emissions by the same year. Its effective implementation on the continent will depend substantially on the alignment, monitoring, and enforcement capacity of national regulators.
AFRIPERF, the continental platform for upstream petroleum regulators, provides the institutional setting for that alignment. The Accra workshop is expected to advance shared regulatory positions on emissions measurement and reporting, flare and methane management, disclosure standards, and the sequencing of decarbonisation obligations within Africa’s broader petroleum development agenda.
