AFRIPERF advances its mandate through strategic partnerships with host institutions, event platforms and international bodies whose work intersects with African petroleum regulation.
Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC)
The NUPRC is the founding institution of AFRIPERF and currently hosts the Secretariat. Nigeria, as Africa’s largest crude oil producer, played the lead role in proposing, convening and establishing the forum. Its Commission Chief Executive serves as the current AFRIPERF Chairperson.
Africa Oil Week (AOW)
AFRIPERF and AOW have formalised a partnership to co-host the Annual General Meeting within Africa Oil Week each year, connecting the forum directly with Africa’s largest upstream petroleum conference and its community of regulators, operators and investors.
Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA)
The NMDPRA participates in AFRIPERF activities alongside the NUPRC, ensuring harmonisation efforts encompass the full petroleum value chain — from upstream exploration through to downstream distribution and retail.
International Energy Agency (IEA)
The IEA’s research on African energy investment — including its finding that Africa requires over USD 240 billion per year by 2030 to meet energy and climate goals — provides an important evidence base for AFRIPERF’s work on regulatory
disparities.
World Bank
The NUPRC has partnered with the World Bank on Nigeria’s upstream decarbonisation agenda. This collaboration informs AFRIPERF’s broader work on emissions reduction, renewable integration and sustainable petroleum governance.
